Sub-head 38.-Anti-Malarial Works, including cost of resumptions, $20,000.—This vote is for anti-malarial work in Hong Kong. It provides for the training of stream courses, and draining of swamps to prevent the breeding of mosquitoes.

KOWLOON.
BUILDINGS.
39.-Magistracy at Kowloon, $73,000.—A description of this building was given in last year's Notes on Estimates. The sum asked for is to complete the building.
40.-New Central British School and Site Formation, $221,610.-The site formation of this school was carried out by the P.W.D. and is prac- tically completed. The building and completion of the playing fields, etc., is being carried out by a private architect. The sum requested is to complete.
41.-Government Stores, Hung Hom, $41,000.—There is inadequate cover for stores at Hung Hom. It is intended to meet this by erecting a re-inforced concrete frame and brick panel building.
GENERAL WORKS.
42.-Roads, $35,000.-The vote will meet expenditure incurred on road surfacing, kerbing, channelling and the construction of footpaths in new areas under development.
43.-Drainage. (a) Training Nullahs, $1,000.—This sum is required to meet the cost of training stream courses where this is necessary due to new development.

(b) Miscellaneous Drainage Works, $35,000.-Required to meet the cost of providing sewers and storm water drains for houses in newly developed areas.
45.-Miscellaneous, $7,000.-This vote is available for all Departments and provides funds for small works which arise during the year but are considered too small for a separate vote.
46.-Water Works. (a) Miscellaneous, $6,000.-Provide for small exten- sions to subsidiary water mains and other mis- cellaneous minor works.

48.-Port Works, $1,000.-Required for taking soundings, borings and pre- liminary investigations in connection with new and proposed harbour works, foreshore dumping, etc.

49.-Flush Latrine-Junction of Prince Edward Road and Boundary Street,
$12,000. To provide a public convenience in this district. 50.-Conversion of Dry Latrine to Flush, Hung Hom Market, $4,500.-To
provide a water carriage system to the existing dry latrine.

Sub-head 51.-Postal Kiosk, Hung Hom Market, $3,500. The provision of postal facilities in this district is limited and provision of this kiosk should meet present requirements.

52.-Coal Bins, Yaumati Slipway, $3,100.-To provide open brick and con- crete storage accommodation for coal supplies to Government launches. With the bins it is hoped to keep a better check on these coal supplies.
53.--Exhumation of Chinese Cemeteries, $1,000.-To provide for the re-
moval of Chinese graves which may obstruct development.
54.—Laying out new areas, Chinese Cemeteries, $5,000.—To provide for new
burial areas in existing cemeteries.
WATER WORKS.
55.-Back Lane Service Pipes, $5,000.-To provide for the extension of subsidiary service pipes in back lanes in newly developed properties to obviate the excessive cutting of roads which would be necessary for direct connection to principal mains. These subsidiary mains are eventually paid for by house owners when connections are requested.
56.-Distribution Mains, $5,000.-To provide for water mains in newly
developed areas.
PORT WORKS.
57.-Kefuse Boat Pier & Live Stock Landing at Mataukok, $3,000.-For
payment of retention money.
58. Construction of Yard for Storage of Sand at Hung Hom, $1,000.-For
payment of retention money.

59. Compensation and Resumptions, $5,000.-For expenditure in the ac- quisition of buildings and land necessitated by Town Planning Improve-
